Air Transat ends Berlin flight route due to low demand
Air Transat is ending its seasonal transatlantic route between Toronto and Berlin after two years because of low passenger demand.

Air Transat has canceled its seasonal flight service between Toronto Pearson International Airport and Berlin Brandenburg Airport, AOL.com and Simple Flying both report. Open Jaw reports that the Canadian carrier dropped the route for summer 2027, completely exiting Germany after operating the service for two years. [1][3][6]
AOL.com reports that Air Transat made the decision due to low passenger demand. Brandenburg Airport is the third busiest airport in Germany, handling slightly over 26 million travelers in 2025. By comparison, airports in Frankfurt and Munich saw over 109 million total passengers pass through them in 2025. [1]
The exit follows broader reductions in airline service across Berlin. AOL.com reports that Germany increased its air passenger tax, the Luftverkehrsabgabe, by more than 20 percent between 2024 and 2026. Low-cost airline Ryanair canceled 12 routes from Berlin to various European cities before closing its Brandenburg Airport base in October 2026. [1]
Air Transat was founded in 1986 and is based in Montreal, Quebec. It operates flights to more than 65 destinations in 35 countries using a fleet of 42 aircraft. Simple Flying reports that while the airline is leaving Berlin, it plans to expand its European network elsewhere ahead of receiving Airbus A321XLR aircraft deliveries. [3][7]
