American Airlines plans network changes and largest airport lounge in Charlotte

American Airlines has abruptly suspended nine major routes, according to The Sun. The outlet reported that the cancellations will make access to North American destinations more difficult for travelers. [1]
Separately, American Airlines announced plans to build a 40,000-square-foot Admirals Club lounge in the main atrium at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, The Points Guy and Simple Flying both reported. Simple Flying reported that the facility, scheduled to open in 2028, will be the largest lounge in the carrier's network, topping a new space currently under construction in Dallas. [3][6]
In other operational updates, Simple Flying reported that American Airlines replaced its regional bus service between South Bend, Indiana, and Chicago O'Hare with Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft flights on October 5, ending a one-year partnership with ground transport operator Landline. Frequent Miler also reported that the carrier is offering discounted AAdvantage award redemptions for economy travel between the United States and Sydney, Australia, for 25,000 miles one-way during October.
