Den Haag area transport operator HTM launched tram Route 19 to the Delft University of Technology campus on October 5, 2026, RailTech reported. The new rail link expands public transit options for students and staff traveling directly to the academic campus. [1]

According to RailTech, the construction project took two decades to complete. The long timeline was caused by strict technical requirements to minimize vibration and electromagnetic interference, which could disrupt sensitive scientific research equipment operated at the university. [1]

RailTech reported that the extension spans 2.5 km from Delft railway station to the university campus. The line uses a custom power feed specifically designed to comply with the stringent interference constraints along the route. [1]

The city of Delft gained prominence during the 17th century for its tin-glazed blue-and-white pottery known as Delftware. It is also known as the birthplace of painter Johannes Vermeer, who was born in 1632 and died in 1675. [2]
