Air and travel services provider dnata will shortly deploy four fully electric buses to transport passengers on the tarmac at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Ground Handling International and Regional Gateway both confirmed the expansion of the ground handling fleet at the Italian hub. [1][2][3]
Airport World reported that the four new electric vehicles build on more than 30 million euros invested by dnata in fleet modernisation across its Italian ground handling network over the past three years. During that period, the company deployed over 550 ground support equipment units across its Italian operations. [1]
The operational upgrades cover three major Italian airports, according to Airport World. Dnata has introduced new equipment at Rome Fiumicino, Milan Malpensa, and Milan Linate to support growing flight schedules, enhance safety standards, and improve handling efficiency. [1]
Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport serves Rome, Vatican City, and the Lazio region. It covers 16 square kilometres and is the busiest airport in Italy, handling over 50 million passengers in 2025. [4]
