The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a close call at New York LaGuardia Airport involving a Delta Air Lines regional flight and a business jet, according to FTN news, Simple Flying, and ABC13 Houston. [1][2][3]
Simple Flying reported that a private jet took off from an intersecting runway without permission from air traffic control. Delta Connection flight DL5415, operated by Endeavor Air using a Bombardier CRJ900, was arriving from Omaha Eppley Airfield and had to abort its landing. [2]
Flight tracking data showed the CRJ900 pulled up just 100 feet above the runway to avoid the departing aircraft, Simple Flying reported. [2]
LaGuardia Airport opened to the public in December 1939 as New York Municipal Airport before being renamed after former Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia. The Port Authority took over operational control in 1948, and the facility operates under federal slot restrictions that limit scheduled operations to 71 per hour to control congestion. [5]
