Israel has banned a pilot who claims to work for United Airlines from entering its airspace after social media posts expressed support for Iran and Hezbollah, Paddley Too and The Times of Israel reported. The decision followed an investigation by a global monitoring body tracking online antisemitism, according to Paddley Too. The Times of Israel and VINnews both confirm that Captain Sina Amjadian was barred by Israeli authorities. [1][10][12]
Separately, United Airlines is facing financial pressure from high fuel costs despite strong traveler demand. Skift reported that the carrier lowered its fourth quarter profit forecast and expects jet fuel prices to average $4.80 per gallon. The outlet noted that while United recovered 72 percent of its extra fuel costs through ticket prices in the third quarter, it missed internal recovery targets. [2][4]
In infrastructure developments, United Airlines has opened a new concourse and a 54,000-square-foot lounge at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to TravelPulse and Simple Flying. Simple Flying reported that the lounge is the largest airline lounge in the Americas and forms part of a $2.6 billion terminal transformation project. [3][5]
The airspace ban comes amid heightened aviation security across the region. As FTMQ Travel reported earlier, authorities in the United Arab Emirates recently foiled an attempted attack by a Flydubai co-pilot who intended to crash a passenger aircraft into Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. [16]
