Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has defended airline operations at Tulum International Airport, stating that Aeromexico did not cancel flights due to security concerns or lack of profitability, Riviera Maya News reported. Speaking at a morning press conference, Sheinbaum said international airline routes into the airport will resume by the end of October. [1]
Riviera Maya News reported that Sheinbaum expects tourist numbers and visitors to the local archaeological zone to recover now that issues regarding free entry to the park are resolved. She addressed recent concerns over route suspensions following the withdrawal of services by major carriers. [1]
Tulum International Airport, officially named Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, is located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It serves domestic, international, executive, and military flights in the Riviera Maya region, operating as a secondary facility to Cancun International Airport, which lies 125 kilometers to the north. [2]
As FTMQ Travel reported earlier, route adjustments by major airlines have impacted network planning across North America in recent weeks. The Mexican government maintains that Tulum remains a profitable destination for commercial aviation and expects flight schedules to rebuild toward the end of the month. [1][4]
