A ballistic missile strike hit Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday afternoon, according to Paddley Too. Smoke was seen rising from the terminal building shortly after Houthi rebels renewed threats against civil aviation in Saudi Arabia. Paddley Too and PYOK both report that the airport might remain closed following the latest attack. [1][2]

The strike follows earlier assaults on the facility. The Financial Express and PYOK reported that an earlier Houthi missile attack killed 12 people and injured hundreds at the Riyadh airport. As FTMQ Travel reported earlier, a strike on Terminal 3 killed at least 12 people and injured over 300 on October 10. Rus Tourism News reported that the airport was evacuated after passenger terminals were hit. [5][6][7][10]

The attacks have caused widespread disruption to air travel across Saudi Arabia. TheStreet reported that international airlines canceled flights and airport operations were shut down after the Houthi strikes. CBC reported that a Saudi-led coalition vowed retaliation following the deadly airport attack. As FTMQ Travel reported earlier, a Saudia Airbus A320 was destroyed at the airport in an October 8 strike, and Delta Air Lines is reconsidering its planned route between Atlanta and Riyadh. [3][4][10][11]

The military actions are occurring alongside broader regional fighting. On September 3, 2026, the Houthis launched an offensive against the Presidential Leadership Council, the internationally recognized government of Yemen, leading to clashes across multiple governorates. [8]
