Scotland is preparing for severe travel disruption this weekend as Storm Boelo moves across the region. According to the Traveler, the BBC, and STV News, the storm is bringing forecast wind gusts of up to 80 mph across much of the country. Network Rail announced that train lines will close as part of safety measures taken for the storm. [1][3][4][5]
The Met Office issued an amber wind warning covering most of mainland Scotland for Saturday 24 October and Sunday 25 October, the Traveler reported. The weather agency warned of transport disruption and a high likelihood of power interruptions. [1]
Train operators across the region are altering services. Northern announced that its trains will be halted with no rail replacement bus services provided during the storm, according to NW Mail. In southern Scotland, DnG24 reported that train speeds are being slowed down for safety. [6][7]
The storm is part of the 2026 to 2027 European windstorm season, which spans from September 2026 through August 2027 [8]. [8]
