Air Canada cancels flights to US destination citing weak travel demand

Air Canada has canceled all flights to a U.S. destination after two years of service due to low passenger demand, Yahoo Finance and TheTravel reported. The carrier originally entered the market with a non-stop flight from Toronto in 2024. The decision comes as airlines adjust schedules to cut unprofitable routes serving smaller cities. [1][4]

Cross-border travel between the two countries remains at levels not seen in decades, according to Yahoo Finance. Data published by the Canadian government statistics agency shows that Canadian trips to the United States in September 2026 fell 29 percent compared to September 2024. Border crossings by car dropped 31 percent, while flights dropped 19 percent. Yahoo Finance reported that aggressive politics and rhetoric from United States President Donald Trump were the primary drivers of the decline. [1]

Air Canada was founded in 1937 and serves as the flag carrier and largest airline of Canada by fleet size and passenger volume. The company is headquartered in Montreal and operates 335 aircraft to serve 208 destinations through hubs in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver. [11]

Airlines continue to adjust cross-border capacity based on shifting travel patterns. Travelers holding tickets on discontinued routes should check directly with the carrier for booking adjustments or refund options. [1]
