British Airways Flight to Chicago Returns to London After Cabin Depressurization

A British Airways Boeing 777 flight to Chicago returned to London Heathrow on Monday after experiencing cabin depressurization and declaring an emergency over Ireland.

A Chicago-bound British Airways flight returned to London Heathrow on Monday, October 5, after experiencing a cabin pressurization issue over Ireland. Paddley Too and PYOK reported that British Airways flight BA-295 departed London Heathrow over an hour late on October 5 for Chicago O'Hare International Airport. [1][8]

According to airlive, the transatlantic flight declared an emergency while flying over Ireland. ANI News and NBC News both reported that the aircraft made an emergency descent over Ireland before making a U-turn to fly back towards London Heathrow. NBC News and the Mirror both reported that the plane dropped 28,000 feet during the incident. [2][3][4][9]

Paddley Too, PYOK, and the Mirror reported that oxygen masks dropped from the cabin ceiling and passengers put them on as the aircraft failed to pressurize. Paddley Too and PYOK stated that the aircraft failed to pressurize while flying at 9,000 feet over Ireland. Simple Flying reported that the aircraft operating the flight was a Boeing 777. Simple Flying and ANI News both reported that the Chicago-bound flight diverted back to London following the cabin depressurization report. Paddley Too and PYOK reported that the incident occurred on Monday afternoon as the transatlantic flight traveled toward its destination in the United States. [1][4][5][8]
