The Emerald Princess cruise ship failed a health inspection conducted by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on October 16, 2026. Cruise Hive and Pirates & Princesses both reported that the vessel received a score of 78 out of 100 while docked in Long Beach, California. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Vessel Sanitation Program considers any score of 85 or lower to be a failing mark. [1][2]

Cruise Hive reported that the score is the lowest in the history of the ship, marking its first failing inspection in 19 years of operation. Officers from the sanitation program cited 39 individual violations during their review of the vessel. [1]

Inspectors documented multiple operational issues throughout the ship. According to Cruise Hive, the official report listed failures in how onboard illness cases were documented, missing labels for proper food discard times, soiled surfaces, and improper storage of mops. [1]
