Airport operator Fraport AG recorded a 2.7 percent increase in passenger traffic across its global network of gateways in September 2026. Airport World reported that the company's primary hub, Frankfurt Airport, handled 6.1 million passengers during the month, marking a 1.6 percent rise compared to the same period last year. [1]

According to Airport World, passenger volumes at Frankfurt Airport benefited from ongoing summer school holidays in the neighboring German states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. This extended vacation schedule maintained strong demand for traditional holiday destinations throughout the month. [1]

Fraport was established in 1924 as Südwestdeutsche Luftverkehrs AG to manage operations at the Rebstock airfield in Frankfurt. It grew into a publicly traded company following an initial public offering in 2001 and expanded into international airport management across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. [3]

The operational core at Frankfurt Airport manages over 70 million passengers annually during peak years. The company supports its core operations with infrastructure expansions alongside digital initiatives, including artificial intelligence automation within its dedicated unit. [3]
