Construction crews finished laying track for the Chongqing-Kunming high-speed railway line on Saturday, October 24, 2026. CGTN reported that the final segment was installed at the Junlian Tunnel, which is located on the border between Sichuan and Yunnan provinces in southwest China. [1]

Workers installed the final pair of 500-meter steel rails inside the Junlian Tunnel to complete the track laying phase. According to CGTN, construction workers marked the project milestone by taking photographs at the tunnel location after the final rails were put into place. [1]

The high-speed line will improve rail links to Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. Kunming is also connected to eastern China through the Changsha-Kunming high-speed railway, which forms the western portion of the larger Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway system. [1][5]
