Delta Air Lines announced on October 12, 2026, that it will delay the launch of its new nonstop service between Atlanta and Riyadh until March 2027 at the earliest. Paddley Too, Skift, and One Mile at a Time all report that the decision follows safety concerns in the region. Paddley Too reported that Riyadh King Khalid International Airport was hit by deadly missile attacks. [1][2][4]

The route between Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was originally scheduled to begin in late October 2026. One Mile at a Time reported that Delta planned to operate the service daily using an Airbus A350-900 aircraft. Travel Tourister noted that a safety review was already underway prior to an expected October 23 launch. [1][2][4][9]

In addition to security issues, Skift and One Mile at a Time both report that weak early passenger demand was already a concern for the route ahead of the planned launch. In a statement quoted by Skift, Delta stated that the safety and security of its customers and employees always come first and guide its operational decisions amid evolving developments in the region. [2][4]

Travel Weekly Asia and Travel Daily News International both reported that attacks on the Riyadh airport disrupted flights and escalated regional security concerns. Paddley Too reported that Delta remains committed to building a long-term presence in Saudi Arabia despite the delay to its flight operations. [1][5][6]
